Title: Ghost forests of Smith Creek: insights from tree rings and sediment cores
🌿
Speaker: Dr. Monica T. Rother
Co-authors: Kendra Devereux (MS) and Andrea Hawkes (PhD)
🌿
Description: Ghost forests occur in the Cape Fear Region, including along Smith Creek. These areas of dead bald cypress trees form from saltwater intrusion related to dredging and/or relative sea-level rise. We use a combination of tree-ring and foraminiferal records from sediments to learn more about ghost forest formation.
